Digital nomads through the years

Updated: Dec 16, 2022

If you happened to discover your passion for traveling before the pandemic, you may know how far we’ve come as a community. Through the social media evolution and the virtuality’s popular moment during and after quarantine, being a digital nomad has been quite a ride.

The term started to gain certain popularity during the early 2000’s, when social media and sharing our everyday life for the internet to see started being a trend. However, it would take a couple more years to become a travelers’ word, which happened when the relationship between remote work and the possibility of traveling were discovered.

Even though we are usually mistaken by digital natives, there are digital nomads of every generation. Us lovers of traveling and experiencing new things have been and will be this way no matter what we choose to do as a job or how old –or young- we feel we are.

It is a fact that we usually have creative careers. Web and graphic design, blogging, social media, marketing and content creators are a few of the many possibilities we have professionally as nomads. Anything related to creating and connecting, as long as we’re not tied down to a schedule or –please– a desk inside an office.

Of course, this evolution became accelerated during the worldwide normative social distancing. It was a hard time for every industry, but it was especially tough for us globetrotters. However, we managed to stay strong and find safer ways to travel. As eternal learners of every place’s traditions, we adapted easily to the new means of communicating and innovative ways of enjoying things.

This brought to the surface a universal truth we already know and have done so for many years: remote work seems to be perfect for a world that’s more into the screens each day. Rather than “an option” or a relaxed alternative for creative and active people, it seems only logical that it becomes the norm; especially now that the digital events and socialization is happening faster than ever.

In conclusion, from the early 2000’s until today, we’ve traveled in many different aspects, growing together and getting better each day.

What's your favorite part of being a digital nomad? 😉
